this song is really beginning to creep into my subconscious. it is becoming one of those that i will almost always loop again when it comes up in my em:t shuffle. 'invade areas where nothing's definite' from the 2297 album was a hard sell for me, but the first time i heard alabama recontextualize this piece, it clicked for me; and suddenly it felt [i realize this is illusion] that beatsystem recorded 'invade' as a prelude to a future evolution, that alabama closed a circle with a groove and melody so self-assured and grounded that it was like sonic insurance that nothing is ever done, ever over, ever abandoned. i don't know to what extent beatsystem felt alabama an opportunity to speak towards this gift of continuity which we have in the new em:t, but it was one of the first moments in hearing the new em:t that i felt 'yes; em:t is back. the world is not such a bad place.' the stunning centerpiece [for me] sample 'i reckon it'll be me myself. yea, i reckon, it'll be me.' felt very intimate, very matter-of-fact; 'well, things come and go; if you want something to endure, you're best off doing it yourself.' this was what i heard, and i smiled. :) ▪
