Last night I went to see and hear Thomas Köner's presentation of his new release "NUUK", in Utrecht. Apparently, the inspiration for this work were webcam images from Finland and Greenland.
It was a very interesting and thrilling performance. My hair (what's left of it) and my shirt were vibrating quite severely because of the heavy-duty drones. He projected two images on the back wall playing with the light saturation. It was an exhilarating experience I would recommend to anyone who enjoys soundscapes. ▪

Have you managed to acquire any more work by our esteemed Mr. Köner?
I managed to get my hands on a copy of "Unerforschtes Gebiet" this summer. Through a CD-shop for just 22 euros! It's very good and slightly reminiscent of HIA/Biosphere's Polar Sequences.
I wonder at times what would come out of a collaboration between Thomas Köner and Geir Jensen(Biosphere).

DAI KAN is japanese for "big" "cold". It is the coldest season of the year. Do a search for DAIKAN on google.com and you'll find lots of nice info. ▪

Thomas Koner makes some very dark music. The track "subnival" is excellent. I just found (and bought) a CD of him called "DAIKAN" released 2001. This is one of the most minimalistic "sound-scapes" I have ever heard. VERY DARK and you need a very good sub-woofer. Loads of bass. Goosebump material, for sure.
